It was the 80s, it was considered a social faux pas to NOT be up to your eyeballs on weed and/or cocaine.

My hottest Star Wars take is Han's actually just an okay character but Harrison Ford is so hot even when he doesn't care that most people didn't notice this

That's the whole potent cocktail of emotions bundled up in "I love you" "... I know"

I know that was an ad-lib (so again, Ford the person impacting on Han the character) but it was certainly quite a choice to use that take. Fans like to pretend that Han has a gooey marshmallow interior but there's a lot of stuff in the films to contradict that.

I mean, with Solo that's canon basically. But yeah he's kind of an ass in the first two films. And not in like a good way. He negs Leia throughout the second movie.

He softens up quite a bit in the third which reportedly Ford was not happy about. He didn't like being more of a goofief character and less of, well, a scoundrel.

It's funny though. chronologically, he's kinda goofy in Solo before becoming a scoundrel through ANH and ESB before returning to being goofy in RotJ. I know these films were made decades apart but it kinda creates an interesting loop for Solo's character.
