I feel like even colonialist academics of the 30s would not say "it belongs in a museum" abt an idol protected by operational traps including a giant rolling boulder, maintained by the indigenous people. I feel like they would let that one go, out of self preservation at least

And yeah it's really fucked up but I do see what he means, that what he wants is this to be a truly dark shameful secret - one that could destroy his reputation if it got out - even by the standards of the 1930s But the movie doesn't do justice to that at all

Like it's an interesting idea *because* it's monstrous and deserves its own movie, you can't just drop that shit as spicy backstory for the cool charming morally compromised hero
