Seriously Rey is gonna be super powerful now specifically because she's a Force dyad combined into one body and shit

Is that how that even works? Do we know at all what a "dyad" is and if it confers more power?

I know some film schools used to teach "dyad theory" to analyze how much two characters interact and thus judge the strength of their dyad. So maybe it's super meta :p

I mean, yeah, a 'dyad' just means a community of two. It makes as much sense as any other word for "hey these 2 people are connected". But it also doesn't mean much for explanatory power?

Frankly, I think that it's just a "Force Bond" from Bioware and that Abrams, unlike Johnson, is unwilling to admit he's building on a video game

The way Palpatine talks about it in this movie implies that it's a natural phenomenon, that Rey and Ben's souls were somehow paired from birth by nature, as opposed to TLJ saying that Snoke artificially created a Force Bond to fuck with them

Arguably this is just as big a retcon as the one about Rey's parents, and the same kind of retcon (turning something Johnson deliberately said was arbitrary and not meaningful itself into something fundamentally predestined)

But no one really paid attention to that part of the movie because the Reylos didn't like it And, in justified criticism of the movie, it did feel awfully handwavy (*How* could Snoke just magically create a Force Bond between the two of them remotely without them noticing)

Actually in hindsight it's hilarious to say Snoke was some kind of vat-grown Force puppet who thinks he's extremely powerful but most of his powers are him being brainwashed to think existing destiny is his own idea It's Abrams owning Johnson the way Johnson owned him

Anyway it's weird right How can they be a dyad when they already established that Ben was born ten years earlier than Rey Is that why Ben was so troubled, because he spent ten years alive with his missing other half not even existing anywhere else in the universe
