Can someone please explain the International Date Line to me? Obviously I understand time zones but how can there be a place where you always switch days?

Contrary to the Superman movie, I cannot, by doing this, actually go back in time and reverse the calendar At some point the clock *wraps around* so instead of being "behind" where I was I'm now ahead - I wrapped around from yesterday back to today

Obviously objectively there is only one 24-hour day on Earth that exists at any one time But in order to have a calendar we have to divide one day from the next at a certain arbitrary point and that's the IDL, it's the "wraparound" point
