Given what you said about the theory the body is a recovering cancer patient, and the accelerated time scales of the show, they should have done Cancer as like some unspeakable ancient eldritch evil

The overall concept of cancer is (the "doctrine" of unlimited replication that the cancer cells subscribe to as a heresy) The cancer cell himself, of course, is just a sweet kid who got caught up in a bad situation and became the avatar of evil through no fault of his own

Come to think of it, a malignant growth could also be equated pretty easily to capitalism's role in climate change+destruction of ecosystems. So many more things could have died in this series, that now just never will.
