Leia did very much respect Kenobi but she knew him as Obi-Wan

The implication I take from her message, though, is that she had never met him - and never really did, since he died during the rescue. So it would be weird for her to name her child after him either way.

Yeah I always thought she only knew him by reputation.

Since he's been in hiding since she was born, it would be very weird if she knew him in person. But he was very important to her rescue, so she might have wanted to name her child in honour of him, but 'obi-wan' was too on the nose?

Yeah she technically met him when he and Bail Organa played rock paper scissors over the two babies but never again thereafter Then again she remembers her mother's face from the ten seconds before she died somehow

I prefer the explanation that she's talking about Mrs. Organa, who also died young, and Luke just phrased his question really badly.

The part that's so out of nowhere about that scene is the line "what do you remember about your mother - your real mother?" when as far as I know until that moment everyone had assumed Leia believed the Queen of Alderaan to be her real mother

Yeah I mean that's some pretty insulting to adoptive parents phrasing on his part.

"What do you remember about your mother? Your *REAL* mother, whose uterus you developed in. Not your bullshit fake mother who just loved you and raised you, like that even matters."
