Even if I buy that killing randos is seen as less morally impactful, it's plainly because of somewhat lazy scriptwriting and nothing else, and also the killings of Palpatine, Snoke,and Palpatine again are portrayed as unambiguously good, it's just that Palpatine mindfcks the hero

Yeah, I agree. I mean, if Palpatine was telling the truth about his plan initially then either there are some weird lore facts about lightning, or Rey is in fact posessed at the end
