It’s a perennial thing in fountain pens including high status ones and I think that’s really nice I wonder if there’s a correlation with whether the culture expects users to know and be able to mess with the internals they’re looking at, versus Magic Sophisticated Box

I kind of think that Apple especially should go back to it for laptops, I think it looks cooler than the new rose gold etc. Interesting tho that it wasn't just apple then; mu old ZIP drive and a track ball were transparent too, and a MacAlly keyboard.

I feel like for computer stuff it was mostly mac accessory manufacturers following Apple's lead, I don't remember there being much PC stuff. A bunch of *other* consumer electronics, like the N64 and Game Boy and all the phones and stuff people have posted in replies.
