The Rule Of Two is still the absolutely stupidest thing and I hate it more than I hate any other piece of SW "canon." Yes, including midichlorians.

It seems really risky for an order dedicated to having the student kill the master One backfire that kills both and oops, no more Sith

AN ENTIRE GALAXY OF TRILLIONS AND YOU HAVE A "TRADITION" OF TWO. FUCKING. PEOPLE! it's a narrative dead end

I don’t think so. I don’t think having tons of dark Jedi wandering the galaxy makes the setting more interesting. Having them be incredibly rare and frightening is more compelling imo.

Ehh. I guess it's a cultural bias thing. I usually prefer cultures of X to singular monstrous practitioners

I think the lore of SW makes it clear Sith have existed for thousands of years doing this long before Palpatine so there’s still a culture of evil there (plus they have minions/worshippers not to mention their goose-steppers) it’s just perpetuated by a duo at the top.

I meant a simultaneous extant culture. Like I would buy the Rule if it wasn't "these are the only two Sith alive" and was more just the model of Sith social units where every Master has an apprentice who doesn't count as their own person.

Effectively that's how it works, and there's been splinter Sith groups in canon - most notably when Darth Maul proclaimed himself as the Dark Lord of the Sith and his brother Savage as his apprentice and said they were going to have, like ,a healthy relatonship

Obviously, the ruling Sith put them down hard, but that sort of thing has happened throughout the canon. The current Kylo Ren comic goes into the Knights of Ren as a completely alternate historical Dark Side legacy Ren chooses to revive.

Sure Anyone who's heard of them can just try to set up shop and say they're the Sith Lord now (which is why the Rule of Two Sith try to keep their activities lowkey) But part of the Sith Code is if you're *really* the Sith then you gotta eliminate any pretenders you know of

"Always two there are" is a command If you become aware there's more than two, it's your job to wipe them out If you can't or won't do that then you're not worthy of being Sith

Tbh I like the EU explanation for the Rule of Two, which is that the Sith Empire kept collapsing from everyone trying to kill everyone else, predictably Darth Bane wrote down the Rule of Two really as a *minimum* number of Sith to have as well as a maximum
