Not to mention that sex is a position of vulnerability, which is of course the most terrifying time to have something scary happen to you. Like the shower scene in "Psycho." You could also do it to characters on the toilet, but that would get too many laughs.

Just like if you want to keep ratcheting tension up then obviously it's the least experienced and skilled character who keeps surviving while the older and wiser and tougher characters fail

Yeah; I mean, I guess the simpler version of it is just why it's a final GIRL at all; the male characters are generally more capable and therefore, less dramatic.
