I started watching that Cells at Work anime on Netflix and I never thought I'd say it but they gave the Kylo Ren treatment to literal cancer

Bunch of thirsty fans going "Cancer is only evil because everyone hates it, no one ever gave cancer a chance to tell its side"

Look I'm just gonna say cancer cells aren't nearly that attractive in real life

I guess it's true though, what else is cancer but a bunch of brooding unhappy cells deciding they're too cool and special to play by cellular society's arbitrary rules

Thinking about it more, it's established in the first episode that the host is overall immunocompromised, which is why a relatively routine encounter with a common germ like a Pneumococcus becomes this huge crisis ...It seems likely this person is a long term cancer survivor

The body in Cells at Work is actually a healthy immune system; the “villains” the cells are fighting off represent the body completely wiping out threats before they become a full on infections. The pneumococcus is a “big deal” because an immune system must be on high alert.

Well, they do actually straight up say in the first episode that the host is immunocompromised The white blood cell tries to call for backup and gets yelled at "We're all shorthanded right now"

maybe I misremembered then? Cause I read the manga afterwards and an author note said that the body was healthy; hm the details could’ve changed for the anime I suppose. There’s also a spin off that takes place in an alcoholic/smoker body that’s in way worse condition lol

I mean I don't disagree that most of what happens on the show passes by as unremarkable from the human's point of view, like the "crisis" in the first episode is resolved by sneezing
