I don't actually think TRoS contradicts TLJ that hard by depicting Luke as having been a busy galaxytrotting archeologist before his long exile I always headcanoned that *before* Luke fell into despair and gave it all up there was a phase where he really, really tried

i don't remember him saying he recognized her from the beginning, just that he knows NOW and that Leia knew she was a Palpatine when she started training her Whether this is Luke Force Ghost Afterlife knowledge passed to her or something else isn't clear
-
They've left it kind of vague but I prefer the headcanon that lots of people actually knew she was a Palpatine and didn't say anything because it's a sensitive subject

Luke and Lando's last big adventure wasn't just trying to capture Palpatine's last Jedi hunter Ochi to find out where he was getting his missions from It was also to find out what that last mission *was*
-
He probably did find out that Ochi murdered Palpatine's son after trying and failing to find Palpatine's secret granddaughter Possibly considered extending his adventure to finding her himself before thinking better of it "I'm not going to do that to another child"

Which he clearly did, even in TLJ; it's one reason I held out hope for my Vader reincarnation theory. Even if Rey had ultimately turned out to be nobody, it was *very clear* that Luke, like Han, knew who she was and had had some interest in her before
