I suddenly realized this all means he has no idea who Palpatine is, either. She's going into the whole scene on Exegol and all she hears is some evil old guy is her grandfather. I mean, she grew up on Jaaku as a scavenger, she's not very well read on the Empire's power structure.

The prequels making it clear that, yes, Palpatine was just his personal name and he ruled openly under it without there being any big secret was technically a retcon in the eyes of said movies-only fans

This continued into Ep. 2, actually - people noticed that in his Palpatine guise he already looked more wrinkled than as Senator Palpatine, so there were theorists who were saying Senator Palpatine was probably an unwitting clone of Darth Sidious

Which also explained why the Jedi didn't sense malice or power in him - because he was just a different guy following instructions
