I started watching that Cells at Work anime on Netflix and I never thought I'd say it but they gave the Kylo Ren treatment to literal cancer

And the cancer we see is the body trying to fight off an aggressive cancer in remission Which, in this show, makes it the sexy recurring villain This is fucked up

There needs to be a word for what happens when a visual metaphor goes full circle Like when Cancer goes full Akira on this show, it's a reference to Tetsuo's powers going out of control and destroying his identity as a *metaphor* for cancer But this time it literally is cancer

The body in Cells at Work is actually a healthy immune system; the “villains” the cells are fighting off represent the body completely wiping out threats before they become a full on infections. The pneumococcus is a “big deal” because an immune system must be on high alert.

The cancer storyline is realistic, as our bodies use NK cells and the like to destroy malfunctioning cells before they multiply and progress to malignancy. People with diagnosed cancer have lost these immunological controls.
