I've got to be honest, it also feels like Britons are way more frustrated and confused by their monarchy than say Norwegians or the Dutch.

Like there's other examples of a contentious relationship like Spain. But a lot of the remaining European monarchies seem more stable / laid back somehow.

I think it comes down to that to most british people royalty isnt considered a real 'issue'. Its more that people are apathetic to changing it than anti or pro monarchies,and the Queens radical centrism allowed both the right and the centre left to project she was on 'their side'
