The filibuster only works if a bare majority say it works. Shit, the democratic majorities could have convened without the Republican members present. Congress only has a 50% quorum rule.

Yeah, and I'm not even sure there was an 'original idea' of the filibuster at all; just something that remained in Senate rules as a loophole of sorts and was never closed because Senators are very protective of it.
