Scammers rarely leave messages, it's too much effort for too little reward Without the urgency of you picking up the phone and having them tell you "We regret to inform you..." live it's much more likely people see through the grift

"Don't click on links in emails" etc is also important sure but the landline cold calls are the really bad ones The scammers have correctly isolated landline users as a target-rich environment compared to any other subset

I need a landline to phone my mobile though. How else would I find it?

If it's an Android phone you can use your Google account to make it ring. (I know, from personal experience.) I suspect there's a similar Apple feature.

I have a landline because I don't want a smart phone, I want to be able to walk out my door and not be reachable, I get data mined enough, and it's cheaper than a smart phone. I'm not elderly though and all unsolicited calls get hung up on (unless I have the time & mood to play).

I have a landline so I get the discount for internet and cable...

You have landline *service*. Doesn't mean you have to have a landline *phone*.

I have a landline, but it’s connected to my fax machine (well, it’s an all-in-printer so it came for free). So anybody who calls it gets a squealing fax handshake tone. Seems only fair.
