Meg's not even a liberal. She was well on her way to marrying some kind of Jared Kushner motherfucker until Marta pulled the sheets out from under her. https://twitter.com/yahboyantman/status/1213910161657495552 …

As many people point out the "neoliberal" thing seems clearly misaimed since she appears to consider herself to be a Marxist

Sorry but the repurposing of the word "neoliberal" to mean "wealthy person with progressive social politics" is really annoying

Can I agree with this statement while also asserting it was one of those inevitable linguistic shifts like "beg the question" the moment that neoconservative became a household word

I feel like I don't hear "neocon" nearly as often abused to just mean "moderate conservative"

I grew up absent of a poli sci education thinking that neocons were business and natsec-centric conservatives and neolibs were business and natsec-centric conservatives that supported marriage equality

The word "neoliberal" originally had nothing to do with "social issues", it was part of discourse where both the neoliberals and their opponents were talking about economic policy - the original "neoliberal" was Pinochet

The ugly thing about the modern usage of "neoliberal" as a slur is it implies the "social issue" stuff is fundamentally part of what it means to be "neoliberal" (and that this is fundamentally bad)

When of course the "neo-" in "neoliberal" was meant to put them in opposition to the postwar Keynesian liberal consensus, and both groups were kind of meh on "social issues" as we understand them

It's also kind of annoying that using that word implies that how radical your stated beliefs are is some kind of indication over how likely you are to be a hypocrite, which is totally false in my read I don't think being a "Marxist" has any impact on Meg turning on Marta
