LessWrong seems to be these guys obsessed with computer science who aren't interested in actually doing serious work in computers so they do philosophy but they think they're above philosophy so they do no reading and instead create a cargo cult version of academic philosophy.

MIRI explicitly does no actual work with actually building actual AI software And in fact the basis of their work is arguing that you *shouldn't* do so, unless you can build it on handwavy principles that guarantee it will be safe, which are probably impossible/meaningless

Indeed to the extent there is a research goal it's trying to create a rigorous mathematical definition of whatever the fuck they mean by "Friendly AI" Which is ridiculous, it's just words (there is no such definable thing as "human volition" etc)
