Dragonball Z had a ton of power creep but still managed to be entertaining. Maybe because there was the sense that Goku earned his power through fighting/training. There was always a higher level to achieve.

Honestly this is where I really recommend the Animated Series from the 90s, because it's got a moderately powerful Superman (recognizable as modern with supersenses, heat vision, directed flight, but not lifting entire buildings) and he's goody but not Chris Reeve-level perfect.

Also, I've got the opposite problem, which is that I'd like to see more stories outside superhero/family-friendly media with Superman-level moral commitment, more selfless goods in horrific R-rated settings. It's a big reason why I really dug the Resident Evil 2 remake.
