I guess they were going with "all the trilogies end with twin suns," as if that was true of any trilogy other than the prequels prior to this

Kinda feels like the tattooine homestead would be more compelling if everything was more unintended? Like if Luke really was just some random farm boy and Rey was just some random scavenger instead of all being a comical web of destiny

Yeah this would actually be a cool moment if it weren't loaded with so much literal significance It's Rey going back to a place very much like the one she grew up in, but not quite the same A childhood home and a family that she never actually had

They kept gesturing at this idea that they never fully committed to because it doesn't actually make sense, that she's completely analogous to a real life fan of Star Wars

She has a doll of Pilot Luke Skywalker and everything She's supposed to be feeling the same things when she arrives at the Lars homestead as we are

Someone (I think it was James Adomian) did a bit as Lucas where he's talking about how there are literally whole scenes in the new SW movies where the characters play w/SW toys (see also Jyn's Stormtrooper doll in RO, Broom Boy in TLJ)

Honestly if they'd gone harder with that the reveal in TRoS might have worked better If you actually set up Palpatine's role as Hitler in the movie enough that there's something to directly react to If we'd seen people spitting at the mention of his name etc

As it is the word "Palpatine" is never even mentioned in the sequels until TRoS, Luke mentions him once in TLJ under the name "Darth Sidious"

It's cheesy as hell but maybe if we'd gotten a chance to see Child Rey listening to someone telling stories of the last war by the campfire, if she'd played Star Wars with the other kids acting out the throne room scene from RotJ

Right, there was so much set up implicitly that she really hoped that she was Han's or Luke's long lost kid, and her anger with Ben in TLJ was that he got to be a Skywalker and Han's kid and threw it away That Rey - written competently - would have been devastated by the truth

That Supernatural episode is so great because it's so on the nose and dumb "You always felt like you were nobody special and wished you had a special destiny Well congratulations! You're a Hitler!"

"You have a choice, to go back to your meaningless nobody life and die without ever having mattered to the world... Or be ritually sacrificed to bring back the greatest evil the world has ever seen!"
