AotC pretty much established that light sabers were glorified Bic lighters. Anakin's saber was revealed to be not a weapon he'd crafted himself, but a spare a random extra tossed to him as a replacement.

Well he built another lightsaber in between 2 and 3. So technically the lightsaber Rey uses should be called "Anakin Skywalker's third lightsaber." Easy to miss since of his sabers only the red one looks substantially different

Was the replacement saber in II blue or green? I can never remember. But yeah, I get hung up on weird aesthetic details. Never liked the Weyland-Yutani logo from Aliens when the original one was way cooler.

Anakin only ever used blue and red sabers. The only characters to use green sabers in the films are Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Luke, and Obi-Wan only briefly when he picks up Qui-Gon's

The green lightsaber in RotJ only exists because they realized in the daytime outdoor scenes during the Jabba sail barge sequence you couldn't really see the blade against the blue sky And since storywise he had to get a new lightsaber anyway they were like why not

That led to a lot of crap where the fandom made up stuff about how the green lightsaber represented a more enlightened form of Jedihood (Jedi Consulars vs Jedi Guardians) that eventually became EU canon

Possibly reinforced by giving Yoda a green lightsaber in AotC

Fun fact, the KotOR tie-in comics are about the idea of a bunch of Jedi Masters turning on their apprentices and murdering them all en masse (except for one who barely escapes with his life), because of a prophecy one of them would bring ruin to the order

The conspiracy within the Order that does this, the Jedi Covenant, are all Jedi Consulars with green lightsabers And it's presented as the ultimate failure of the Consular path of trying to think ahead and stop problems before they start

That would explain why the Jedi are comically useless in the PT
