Could also be a lie, like the Emperor WANTS Rey to hate him so it'd make sense he'd spin a tale where he authored all her misery regardless of the truth

The most annoying thing about the reveal is they spelled out that there's independent confirmation, Leia and Luke and possibly Han have actually known the whole time and so it isn't just something Palpatine made up

Like this is just JJ connecting dots from TFA, TFA did strongly hint there was a reason Han took her in and he and Maz Kanata share a cryptic conversation about it TLJ just retconned this to her being obviously super powerful but without any explanation for it

But in TROS we now know that Luke and Leia have been sitting on the Palpatine thing over the whole course of her training Possibly she has the trademark Palpatine nose

The thing being Palpatine is so ridiculously evil and is someone we've only seen as a cackling old man so you can't really mindfuck Rey by telling her "You take after your ancestor", there's nothing to draw on

You could've done that with Anakin but they already foreclosed the possibility of her being a Skywalker by blood and trying to retcon that would be even worse than the Palpatine thing

I'm reminded of the Supernatural episode where they have the random ordinary young woman hit by the shocking realization she's the last scion of Adolf Hitler With no real indication of this in her life except that, hilariously, she kind of looks like Hitler

what episode is that? I gave up on the show after they introduced the Frankensteins as the villains of the week, but I might watch the Hitler episode

There's an Ellie on You who's a precocious spunky teenager whom the morally compromised protagonist betrays for her own good
