Trump didn't run against it. boneheads like you convinced yourselves that Trump shared your antiwar convictions sans evidence, because you just hated Clinton that much. don't lie to yourself, or to us.https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1213172041215549452 …

I mean, he definitely did run against endless wars, but who really believed him.

not definitely. he sort of farted out vague antiwar miasma on occasion, while also talking about how Obama had done too much appeasing and champing at the bit to trash the iran deal.

Definitely farted out vague antiwar miasma then, that’s not a serious contrast to what I said.

it is! he didn't run consistently as an antiwar anything! he said a lot of random shit on the campaign trail, some of which could be interpreted as antiwar if you were determined to not listening to any of the rest of what he said.

The only person determined not to listen to what he actually said was you, Noah. Was he lying? Yes. But he said it, plainly. Please engage with the historical record, not things how you remember them off the cuff. Please, show some integrity.pic.twitter.com/cS7Y71AQQe

None of this is antiwar; he's just saying he'll have a different foreign policy than Obama. Indeed, you could read that part about fighting to win as him saying he'll be MORE brutal, which would be consistent with his actions as president.

It's so fucking obvious that this passage actually means he plans to win wars right away by breaking all the rules of engagement and going for immediate overwhelming force It's insanely willfully stupid that anyone ever read this as meaning pacifism

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/04/opinion/campaign-stops/why-trumps-antiwar-message-resonates-with-white-america.html … I agree that the NY Times is often willfully stupid. But this failure to engage with the actual historical discourse and rhetoric of 2016 is a failure.

JD Vance, in particular, is a bullshit artist not worth listening to and the fact that he and a bunch of other grifters leveraged Trump whispering into a brand is one reason the country went to hell

I agree with that, but that doesn't change the fact that Trump campaigned as anti-war and the media boosted that, which is what Noah denied actually happened and refused to google, instead waving his hands and saying trump farted out some "miasma"
