Like I was recently talking with friends about the Stormtroopers and what they and the Grand Army and Moff system represent, and in practice they're Palpatine setting up an alternative system of government to replace the legal government of the Republic w/one he controls.

A pattern that various strongman rulers do throughout history, but not *limited* to fascism. Fascism is more defined by a particular set of cultural and organizational mores *applied* to a modern autocrat and his supporters. (I.e. "is Napoleon a fascist?")

It's there in supplemental materials, just not the movie. palpatine specifically is a homophobe who believes women are obligated to pump out babies, which after the latest movie seems like a... questionable stance, but it is canon

It still doesn't make sense as a practical belief for an Empire that relies on cloning. He grounds homophobia, and excuses it in officers who have enough skill to contribute otherwise, in the need for humans to outbreed aliens. That makes no sense for Mr. CLOOONES

Well, officially, now, yes, they were "using clones." Snoke was a clone, Palpatine is many clones, etc.

Palps doesn't seems to have ever been a clone anymore. It definitely looked like the Sparti Cylinders where the concept for Snokes creation.

He died. He has to have returned in some form. Presumably he had a raw clone which he corrupted with his sheer evilness when he possessed it.

Yeah when they ask how the hell he survived the events of RotJ Dominic Monaghan just offers "Dark science? Cloning?" This is clearly meant to be the explanation we're pushed toward, as opposed to him actually miraculously surviving the explosion

I want to hold onto the idea of not clones but reanimated via force power. The pressure that puts Palpatine under makes his actions more comprehensible. Also, it makes Rey’s defeat of him a touch less Godlike.
