I remember hearing people say how Sparta never lost a battle and how they where the best. but then looking up all the battles they fought and finding out that not only did the lose some they lost 2 where they heavily out numbered their opponent.

like they got high off their own farts and it fucked them. this myth of Sparta being the best has to go away. it is cancer. they where good warriors that got lucky and won an important battle. that's it. and even the battle that they got famous for is shrouded in half truths

Thermopylae isn't even a victory, is the thing, it's a defeat Strategically it was a failure, it was only a success in that it ended up making a good story for later propaganda

And honestly it's not that impressive to hold out for three days defending an obviously highly advantaged position, even if you are outnumbered (the number 300 wildly exaggerates how outnumbered they were since it doesn't count their allies or their slaves)

It's kind of obnoxious that propaganda of this kind immediately throws out everything people know about military tactics to turn how outnumbered you are into a pure test of character and courage

Like the Battle of Agincourt - the archers weren't actually "brave", the French knights were brave, in that they committed to a tactically suicidal action Shooting people like fish in a barrel isn't brave
