I mean look can you imagine the idea of a number called your AQ or athletic quotient that measures "general athletic ability"? Of course You can even measure it by making everyone compete in a decathlon, and do so more "objectively" than an IQ test

Does that mean there's one specific magical essential substance in the body, "athleticism", that goes up and down and takes every single one of your athletic stats with it when it does (max bench press, time to run a mile, free throw average) Of course not
Show this thread -
*Generally speaking*, yeah, most ordinary people have all their fitness scores correlated If you pull two random people off the street, the one person who can bench press more is also likely to run a mile faster But that's not how the body works, that's how society works

It's obviously possible to be a much stronger lifter than average and also a much slower runner than average Hell it's possible to be extremely strong and not be able to run *at all* (people in wheelchairs) It's just unusual

But sure in most people there's something you can vaguely call a "general factor of athleticism" and you can even label certain specific actual physical things that it describes (red blood cell capacity, lung capacity, muscle fiber ratio, etc) It's not that useful though

If you wanted to draft someone for a sports team, or for the military, or do a physical checkup for the sake of their health, you would want to ask about the actual specific stats Giving a single number that's their "AQ score" would be pointless

Society also conflates knowledge/recall with intelligence.

The idea of what “smart” looks like is pretty bizarre. It tends to work in my favor- I remember random facts easily! But it isn’t the same thing as useful knowledge most of the time, especially since I can look this stuff up on my phone at a moment’s notice.

it's JUST FUCKING PROCESSING SPEED with a pile of confounders on top of it, there is no secret mystery here

It would be funny if the only thing keeping a cat from figuring out general relativity was time.
