Quick anecdote A couple months after I separated from the military but before I severed with my biofamily, my mom wanted to pay for some repairs to my car and I let her While we were at the shop together we bumped into the friend of hers who many years ago would cut our hair

We hadn't seen her in years but I'm good with faces and contexts and I recognized her even before my biomom She'd take me and my older biobrother and my younger biosister there and we'd all just get our hair fucked up (idk if she was that bad but she was pretty white)

Anyway it was awkward right Because obviously I was post-transition and this was the town I grew up in so me being in the presence of a fairly recognizable figure would, theoretically, make it super obvious I was trans Like I wasn't sure how we were going to handle this

And what my biomom did was honestly really funny She just casually gestured over to me and said calmly "and you remember my daughter, Penelope." To which hairdresser lady just kind of nodded in recognition Despite the fact that she absolutely had never heard of Penelope before

So I drove off shortly afterward in my own car And hairdresser lady just kind of remarked to my biomom after I left "wow, your daughter looks so different now"

she just had forgotten my little sister's name lmao and was more than willing to accept she was Penelope she just assumed I was my little sister, who unlike me was light-haired and short and inherited comparatively fewer indicators of mestiza descent fuckin hilarious man

Anyway my brief return to my hometown after the military was like that That wasn't the only time I stole my biosister's identity to get out of a bind I was walking around the neighborhood I grew up in and I accidentally found myself in need of explanations for why I knew people

At one point this guy whose sister used to babysit us asked me "how my brothers were" And I made up this completely surreal alternate universe story about how "my brother" was "in the army or whatever and I never really see him anymore" He called me by my sister's name, haha

It's not incest if the sister you love romantically is yourself
