I can't help but ask when people are all "but how could Finn casually gun down all his fellow former troopers?" if they really understand that this is the decision fascist grooming presents people with in warfare.https://twitter.com/arthur_affect/status/1210393004768260096 …

It's good backstory but they really should've had more of it in the actual movie Like giving context to the surprisingly dark moment where he's willing to gas the barracks and kill all his former colleagues en masse

Like, sorry folks, the stormtrooper rank and file are scum. Sad backstory of child abduction or not, they're at this point just tools of the space fash.

Controversial hot take: people were eager to see a Grand Stormtrooper Revolt so they wouldn't feel bad about Stormtrooper cosplay & marketing anymore.

Technically this would just make nutroopers acceptable, OT Stormtroopers would still be problematic

I mean, maybe. I'm just saying yeah: it sucks that Finn was gunning down people who were once innocent children. But they aren't any more! They haven't been for a while now!

The indoctrination seemed a lot like something artificial that could just be turned off. I think that is why you want to see them freed. It's like they are meat droid prisoners in their own minds, not Nazi youth.

Does it? There's nothing that actually gives that impression onscreen

A whole platoon just snapped out of it. The force hasn't ever just made moral decisions for people, but it might allow some kind of programming to wear off.

I don't like making this kind of thing more supernatural than it needs to be "Conditioning" of this kind happens all the time in real life and has nothing to do with turning people into mindless robots

Yeah, but Finn is so odd. He's prestine. Not hard to imagine some Sith mind control technology that doesn't do any damage.

It's like how Lucas told everyone his intention for Order 66 was that it wasn't some kind of subliminal message, it was something everyone had always consciously known about It's the logical result of a military mindset in a war brewing with paranoia

That would be nice but the clone wars show clearly says it was buried in their minds like a ticking time bomb. There is even an episode where it went off early and a Jedi nearly died (or did die) I agree, a secret set of orders unknown to the Jedi would be perfectly believable.

A lot of this is the mechanics of a military, and lowering the inhibition to kill. If you have a military, you have this kind of conditioning. And in a battle, I have no problem with gunning down Stormtroopers.

Me neither, not when they are trying to kill you. Not the time to worry about why they are shooting at you. It's more of a big picture thing of wondering if what happened to like 30 troopers can be duplicated to save them all.
