Why has it taken Google so long, when the Nexus 9 had it and a lot of other manufacturers have it too?

It's impossible to do ELI5 with all the technical details. The TL;DR would be: just run androbench on both 2 XL and 3 XL. Number differences there aren't exaggerated and will directly affect UX.

Nexus 9 also had f2fs. But yeah this is the first Pixel product that uses it.

Sometime back, with OP3 I was using F2FS for more than a year. But after then apps started crashing randomly! Then all R/W became much slower for a UFS phone. That was I got to know, UFS is pretty alpha thing.
@arter97 So you think that won't happen now with Pxl3? -
Blame OnePlus for not doing it properly. Both f2fs and UFS is totally fine.
