Given enough intimacy and comfort with somebody, we naturally devolve into more animalistic, child-like states, communicating more physically, more playfully, growling, chirping, moaning, etc. Our rational states serve as protectors—if not needed, we readily dispose of them.

I find personally it moves in a flux between the two, but that might be just me.

I agree. The ability to devolve into an animalistic state, to ascend into an intellectual state, and fluidly move between the two with someone is the sign of a solid, intimate relationship.
