The Torch is also a metaphor for culture. We pass on culture. Inheriting, participating, creating culture is meaningful. Being part of something bigger than ourselves is meaningful. The notion of being remembered after we die is meaningful. Etc. 4/

We desire deeply to participate in a both genetic and cultural continuity that transcends our bodies and lifetimes. We wish to be amplified into something greater and longer-lasting than our material selves. 5/

Crisis is partly that we’re cut off from this Torch. Disconnected from family. Not having children. Lack of community. Culture of ancestors lost. Disconnected from the land. Lack of feeling of legacy through our work. World ending. Lack of genetic + cultural continuity. Etc. 6/6
