I don’t think our systems have yet to evolve a healthy way to handle strangers. It seems like we have settings for friend or foe, but nothing for neutral human with no impact on my life.

I agree that friend and foe are hard-wired. Non-dualism doesn’t come naturally and must be perpetually reinforced to keep the grey from relapsing into black-and-white. We are failing at this as a society.
