Warrior and lover are intertwined in men. Man conquers the chaos of the wild to create order that can be inhabited by those he loves. That used to be literal, now it's being repurposed into increasingly abstract realms.
I've heard this too. Where does it come from? Is it the characterization of a social archetype or is it rooted in something unique to male biology and/or psychology?

Both. The biology is that masculine and feminine are oscillations of a single entity, a division of labor that evolved to cover the bases of conquest/creation. Civilization is the masculine oscillation eating its own tail, producing an increasingly ossified social archetype.
