(Perhaps this is what you mean but) Is it possible that some of man’s ‘creations’ were selected by nature to fulfill some ‘potential’ outside of man’s desires? For example, the atom bomb seems like something we’re stuck with that nobody really wants.

I somewhat agree, though I think a lot of human ‘choice’ is an illusion and we’re just kind of caught in this current of nature, taking the world where it will i.e. the bomb wasn’t invented, it was discovered, and even if the first hadn’t discovered it, someone else would have.
