Wondering if anyone has an ingenious method for learning music theory.
I have the intuitive sense that western music theory is explained in a way that makes it way harder than necessary. Too comprehensive, not opinionated or memetic enough.

maybe I will ditch the fretboard for a while and experiment with software, might help me step outside of my existing habits and reconstruct my music knowledge in a new context

You’ll get a lot of miles out of learning a standard blues chord progression, the pentatonic scale, and noodling around with that.
