Civilization (depending on how you define it) is no more than 10k years old, which makes it a fairly recent phenomenon that isn’t baked into our DNA. I’m sure anthills have been going strong for at least several million years.

I agree. I think we’re wired for complex social organization and the emergence of civilization is inevitable. Although, I think it’s interesting to imagine that if the world was flat and infinite, perhaps civilization would never emerge; tribes would just keep spreading out.

Yeah interesting! I imagine without the geographical compression forces present on Earth, the ability to explore and settle the frontiers of space would mitigate our need for the societal innovations that produce an increasingly advanced society. Minimum necessary civilization 🤔
