Theory:
The internet allows people to go 'shopping' for tribes. Free to leave any tribe whenever they want, they will likely shop until finding those that agree with them, escaping the regulatory pushback of coexistence. This gives the internet a natural polarizing mechanic.

It’s fun to find a tribe of people whose defining features include constructive criticism, open mindedness, diversity of opinion, and an unending curiosity to explore & learn in the endless realm of the unknown. That’s like, ding ding ding — jackpot

I greatly appreciate you all — all of my friends here online. But I want to say a special thank you to those who disagree with me intelligently & with a degree of understanding, compassion, civility (and hopefully a dose of humor). You push me forward to become a clearer thinker.

I agree! That's the upside to the tribe market: the ability to find a good one (or grow the one you have) that brings you into personhood, that you can effectively team up with to do good things. That is certainly what the internet has blessed me with.
