You don’t realize until you see it happen how much latitude there is in turning an event or conversation into a narrative - even without lying. Though I’ve also seen journalists explicitly lie multiple times.

Some are upstanding. Steven Levy for example. But it's true that your default assumption should be that they're amoral.
