Since we had <24 hours, the car is only programmed to move left/right if there's an obstacle in front of it. It uses the iPhone as the camera and I built the iOS app with the ResNet50 model for object identification and... (1/2)

...wrote an if else statement which sent a Boolean value 1 to the web backend if the detected object is a coffee mug or about a dozen other things that we put in our track in the demo. And the web backend communicated with the Arduino that controlled the motors of the car.

So it doesn't the SLAM algorithms that autonomous cars use (they need lidars and radars to collect input for that). But instead uses a camera for object detection and "react" accordingly
