A Russian Foreign Ministry statement on the Turkey-Syria crisis, as cited by TASS, simply ignores Turkey's accusations against Russia. Instead, it blames terrorists and is expertly imprecise: "Russian and Turkish military experts have died tragically."

Erdogan's full remarks, as translated by the Turkish Presidency. Very expansive goals, demanding a full retreat to the Sep. 2018 Sochi lines and threatening retaliation "without warning," including for attacks on "friendly elements we are working with."

As I tried to note at WPR (), the key thing now is what Erdogan wants to use this moment for: • Deter attacks on Turks? Fine with Russia. • Keep M5 (for now)? Higher stakes, back to Astana. • Reestablish 2018 lines? Precedent-setting, would be contested.

I don't speak Turkish, so it's not entirely clear to me what he means. Retreat from the vicinity of the outposts, or from the entire zone as mapped out in Astana-Sochi? Very big difference. English-language reports imply the latter, but only quote Erdogan directly on the former.

Enab Baladi's correspondent reports that Syrian government forces have encircled another Turkish military outpost in Idlib, after moving on Tell Touqan, just east of Saraqeb. That should be their third one.

Albu-Kamal customs officials tell SANA that overland trade with Iraq remains very limited 5 months after the crossing reopened. No recorded imports from Iraq. Exports are "humble," with around 20 trucks daily—mostly citrus fruit. Roads need to be repaired.

Syrian Ministry of Defense: • We will now retake Saraqeb and Tell Touqan. • Orders have been given to offer "taswiyah" reintegration to anyone laying down his arms. • Turkey's presence is illegal; we are ready to "respond directly" to Turkish attacks.

Syrian Foreign Ministry disputes Turkish President Erdogan’s assertion that Turkey is in Syria per the 1998 Adana Protocol (), saying the protocol is bilateral – it requires the countries to coordinate, Turkey can’t act unilaterally:
