Trump could rig American politics for next decade if SCOTUS upholds citizenship question on 2020 census. Would be as devastating to democracy as anything in Mueller report. Pay attention to oral arguments Tuesdayhttps://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/04/the-supreme-court-could-shift-power-to-republicans-for-the-next-decade/ …

Why in the hell would an immigrant be afraid of a question on a piece of paper?? A LEGAL immigrant WOULD’NT be. Guess who WOULD...an ILLEGAL immigrant. ILLEGALS R AFRAID OF A CENSUS QUESTION BECAUSE THEY’RE AFRAID OF BEING FOUND BY
@ICEgov!

Sounds like we need to go back to 1950 because if their not a “US Citizen” then they should not be counted because to dumb this down for you....THEY SHOULD NOT BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE !!!

I’m amazed that you can think that an even more conservative court than the one who brought us Citizens United would do anything besides hold up whatever this tinpot dictatorship puts in front of it
-
"Tinpot dictatorship"? Do you guys even hear yourselves anymore? Look, I didn't vote for Trump. But he is the legally elected President. In 2020 he'll have to stand for re-election. If he wins, he'll step down in Jan of 2025. Calling him a dictator cheapens the true definition.
-
Neither you nor anyone else can predict Trump’s actions. He is already floating the idea of not stepping down. Don’t let his facade of “kidding” fool you. These are not normal times and Trump is not a law-abiding POTUS.
-
We of course can predict trump's actions: he'll lose the vote and call for the 33 percenters to revolt. No cares for what results. He has casinos, properties, and a rich father.
-
Matt, I will bet you $1,000 that DJT will step down as required by the Constitution - Either in Jan-2021 or Jan-2025. Riots in the streets happen when Dems lose (see Nov-2016) not when Rs lose.

So amazing that there is a concern over this. You reference it determines the number of representatives and the electoral college yet think it's wrong to base that on the number of citizens that are here lawfully.
-
This funding includes money for schools, health care, hospitals, roads, police, fire departments. Do you think that only citizens contribute to these costs? Plus the US Constitutions calls for a counting of people, not citizens, not land owners, not white males over 21... people.
-
It also calls for our reps to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States from all enemies both foreign and domestic. When citizens say stay out yet others invade, those others become enemies. Mexico pointed guns at US border agents the other day. Think about it.
-
Ummmm and how many US born “citizens” kill other US citizens...way way more than illegals but that doesn’t seem to matter. BT saying it’s right for someone at border pointing a gun but doesn’t compare
-
Do we have the same amount of illegals as we do citizens or something?

You didn't do much research. Trump isn't 'adding' anything. The citizenship question has been on almost EVERY census since about 1860.pic.twitter.com/gV8Uzpm6Vl
-
And we don't live in a 'democracy'. The founders gave us a Constitutional Republic. Check out Article IV. Sec. 4 of the Constitution. "A Republican form of government".pic.twitter.com/ppGhUcu8Pn

Glaringly absent … the words … illegal aliens … I’m guessing Ari you think getting rid of the electoral college is a good idea too. Anybody who’s proud of associating with mother jones is a bonafide idiot … end of research

Curious - I certainly understand why illegals wouldnt respond but what risk do those with legal immigration status run by responding with their status? Do they fear ICE will ignore their status? Do those in process of legal citizenship or here on legal visa fear deportation?
-
It’s essentially a way to track where the majority of non-citizens reside. Then this administration will find ways to hold it against those communities by restricting funding.
-
I get that but if youre of legal immigration status then the question shouldn’t matter right? The US definitely needs to streamline the process for immigrants to gain legal status but until then, should federal funds be allocated to communities where illegals reside?
-
I agree, however illegal immigrants live and work around legal immigrants and citizens alike. Limiting funds affects everyone in the community.
-
Perhaps the admin wants to task the municipalities with managing their illegal populations. If done in the absence of immigration reform this is a xenophobic policy but it wouldn't be the worst thing to have smaller governments make it a focus
-
Would Americans who knowingly hire illegals be honest on the census as well? I doubt it.
-
Americans that hire illegals should be fined and lose their ability to continue business or re-open under a different name. I am a business owner who competes against other who hire illegals. I’d rather lose the business than cave and hire illegals.
