These are both very simple to understand. Official in this case means the memory tester core included in the mister repos, official capacity means capacities of SDRAM actually used by the framework and cores.

The whole original post by @magelocc was about sorg getting their money, my entire point is that there are many ways to make a MiSTer without giving sorg anything.

"many ways to make a MiSTer without giving sorg anything", but can you really call it MiSTer at that point? If it ain't "official" cores, on "official" hardware, with "official" devs involved, it just *isn't* "official" period. Go ask someone on THE "official"

what are you even talking about. You can run all official cores, use the SDRAM board sorg designed, and have the exact same experience as every other Mister user. In fact, that’s an intended use case. It’s why they upload things like the PCB files to GitHub

Here is a perfect example of what happens when Alibabba sellers use
@sorgelig@alexey_saarsoft's work. They get attacked. People made all kinds of wild claims about this. If you use this board you are a heathen. But why? lolhttps://twitter.com/arcade_projects/status/1386310258851725312 …Arcade Projects afegit,
Arcade Projects @arcade_projectsEn resposta a @Mathieulh @alexey_saarsoftLike this one, I personally don't see to be a big deal. this board literally broke functionality, SNAC, of course it should be attacked. If you build the board to specification though, there isn’t a problem.

If you dig deeper, it was actually what appears to be an accidental left out header. Quite literally a 15 cent fix. Nothing is actually broken. Just overzealous complaints in our humble opine. https://twitter.com/arcade_projects/status/1386410431795789825 … But the exact "not made here syndrome" followed for sure!

I do hear you, BUT everyone acting like it is "out of spec", and "trash", and "awful seller" etc, are clearly exaggerating, LOTS. pic.twitter.com/NkXUipwg1a1 resposta 0 retuits A 0 els agrada -
It doesn’t matter how small the fix is, if you’re still shipping it to end users. You can’t expect them to fix it themselves, that’s why they bought a board preassembled. I don’t think anyone cares much so long as the seller updated their board and included the header.

Sure you can. Ship now, patch later has been a thing for decades. Look at ANY modern video game. It would have been trivial to ship the header out to end users. Also hard to classify WHY folks bought it, I suspect they saw the price and fell all over.https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2021/05/16/cyberpunk-2077-at-5-months-few-additions-no-playstation-store-restoration/ …

just because ship now fix later is a thing, doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. especially when fix later means requiring users who likely don’t know how to solder, to solder. If you advertise something as an IO Board 6.1, it should actually follow the entire schematic and BOM.

I forgot to mention btw, if any of those buyers looked at the photos on the sales, it was pretty clear the header was not there. There IS some buyer responsibility. Like the header in question literally is not depicted as being present in product photos. https://www.amazon.com/Terasic-DE10-Nano-Analog-Headphone-Replacement/dp/B08XBH9LNW/ref=dp_prsubs_1?pd_rd_i=B08XBH9LNW&psc=1 …pic.twitter.com/KObkyvamKE
