Why do you assume he’s referencing porkchop? I assumed he was referencing the AIO board which included SDRAM and thus became semi-obsolete when the 128MB modules became available.

If it's an incompatible knock off, people just won't buy it.

"knock off" is subjective in open source land. Some users are fond of lower cost BOM, and can live with the nuances. "incompatible" gets weird, especially when the project has a design change.
