I’m sitting here wondering why MiSTer FPGA doesn’t use HostAp as opposed to requiring an existing access point to connect to.

Noted, and similarly not all WiFi adapters have a Linux kernel module :). These are both solved by a wiki entry with a supported adapter list.

But then you end up with a list of supported but only half adapters, which can cause a lot of frustration IMHO. But it shouldn't be hard to add the hosted ap mode by yourself anyways

Well I mean adding hostapd proper gets back to that buildroot/GPL issue, alas I digress.pic.twitter.com/jzskgnKvGB

I imagine it is more of a case that no one wants to work and be the maintainer of a feature that is not the core.

People wanna put in work, but there’s the elitist dev crew.

That's what forks are for
, if they don't let people contribute, create a fork and make it better.2 replies 1 retweet 1 like
You aren’t wrong, this is exactly why @alexey_saarsoft gatekeeps his build root in hopes that folks can’t “steal” his project. The current MiSTer dev regime including @Kitrinx and @sentientsixp would prefer partially open, and difficult to “clone”. They want to remain relevant.pic.twitter.com/KkfBqZ5lEx
