I’m sitting here wondering why MiSTer FPGA doesn’t use HostAp as opposed to requiring an existing access point to connect to.

AFAIK not all usb wifi will work in host ap mode

Noted, and similarly not all WiFi adapters have a Linux kernel module :). These are both solved by a wiki entry with a supported adapter list.

But then you end up with a list of supported but only half adapters, which can cause a lot of frustration IMHO. But it shouldn't be hard to add the hosted ap mode by yourself anyways

Well I mean adding hostapd proper gets back to that buildroot/GPL issue, alas I digress.pic.twitter.com/jzskgnKvGB

I imagine it is more of a case that no one wants to work and be the maintainer of a feature that is not the core.

If you had 10 devs working on MiSTer would you want their focus working on the console cores or spending time debugging hostap feature?

If I had the attention of 10 #MiSTerFPGA devs, I’d want them to focus on GPL licensing, and making it right. Let’s save the GNU! Cc / @fsf @conservancy. Then all the hostap work would be moot.pic.twitter.com/cwyq5Mdbqu
