by all means... please lay out the landscape in which you think MiSTer is NOT somehow a product. I'll grab my popcorn.pic.twitter.com/JG780FP2zM

MiSTer is an open source hardware and software project. The DE10-Nano is a product that is required to use the MiSTer hardware and software. Since Shane said it "isn't a product like an Analogue device", then to satisfy the conditions, MiSTer just needs not be proprietary IP.

Actually no it isn’t... it has been ported to a number of other FPGa dev kits. Fact is if we were dealing with any sort of real dev team they’d have moved on to their own PCB taking the components of the dev kit :) why does sorg complain about his proprietary interfaces then?

Where can I find info on one of these ports? If it's the one for the chameleon96, I'm well aware of that person's motives and tendency to exaggerate their expertise and what they can do. But if they got the c96 port working, great. Makes the playing field all the more interesting

I'm going to bed. Let me know if it boots anything but the Menu core, and let me know how you are getting around the HPS problems comparably. Also this is a proprietary board just like the DE10-Nano, so I don't see how this backs up your argument.

I mean "anything but the Menu core" you can google Sega Genesis MiSTer Core running on Arrow SoCKit just the same as I. http://modernhackers.com/sega-genesis-mister-core-on-arrow-sockit-fpga/ … porting based on config changes is trivial. DE-10 is not "required hardware" Cyclone V is however.pic.twitter.com/UhYABJ8QOh

Right, so you are limited to the cyclone v. Of which the one on the de10-nano and the one on the sockit have nearly identical limitations. The 110k LE is still there. They have the same IO limits. Same bandwidth limits. Etc... I thought your goal was to improve upon MiSTer?

“Improve mister” I mean the conversation has deviated quite a bit. We were simply taking apart the “de10-nano” is required statement :) aka main point using an SDK dev board is amateur hour.

What a weird take. If it's amateur hour, why do all these "pro" ports struggle? If someone finally makes a custom aio MiSTer board, which really cool when someone does, the de10-nano is still quite capable and almost cheaper than the cyclone v used on it. It's a loss leader.
