But actually on this topic, I see it having no more, or less, value that the system it is recreating. For some it could even be more valuable as they can just plug it in and have it working, as well without going through mods to get that HDMI.

This is the best example, yes. I'm aware of the de10-standard port. It was the simplest one (in relative terms) to port over out of all of them. And the advantages like having vga break even if you buy or build your own analog io board, or pay less buying a direct video adapter.
