What are you aiming for?
To not deal with that nasty ass out of date half usable Linux system that comes with MiSTer would be a great start! Buildroot is gross.

Ref: https://github.com/expipiplus1/de10-nano-example … It would be cool if MiSTer had a properly configured Linux and then also shipped the FPGA cores using the OS package manager rather than relying on huge swathes of shell script and curl
