There are better PSUs that, in addition give the PCB pure energy, also provide more protection from over voltage and other things.

What like an ATX PC power supply? I’m sorry, that’s just simply not the correct power delivery system for an arcade PCB. Use what was designed for it. This is industrial equipment, and the boards ran for decades without filters or anything. Power conditioner ok? Sure.

There's a small version, nvs 4000.

I mean that’s a legit psu with a lot of options, but it’s overkill and the internals aren’t providing anything else aside from the 3.3v raíl, which isn’t needed except for non-late model sega candy cabs, really. All arcade PSUs have adjustable 5V.

The pic is what i use, it's a NEW VS City PSU, but there's a small one used for New Astro City. It's safer than the cheaper one. It's your gear and money, but still a shame.

How exactly is it safer, from a technical standpoint? Show me the scope graphs that show the 5v on this is any better than any other name brand arcade psu, and I’ll concede. I’m not heated, I just don’t understand the basis of your argument aside from more money = better.

You can do it yourself, i'm not trying to prove you anything.

That’s fine, but please don’t spread disinformation. You could make the same argument about anything. Is it probably marginally better on some level? Sure. Is it needed for safe, in spec use and good video quality? No, it’s not.

Let's be clean, are you saying that a cheap PSU is better than a SEGA PSU and that i'm spreading something that's not true? I think YOU need to learn something about PSUs, sir. Your world is too limited.

It’s not better, no, but the normal switching name brand psus that have been arcade mainstays for decades aren’t unsafe. There’s a great thread on AP about this topic. The reason the dedicated sega psus are/look more complex is due to the complexity of the cabinet.
